When to come — a month-by-month guide

Wadi Rum is open every day of the year, but each season is a different desert. A working guide for choosing your weeks.

Spring (March–May) is golden. Days warm but not hot, nights still cool enough for a thick blanket. The desert blooms after the winter rains; tiny wildflowers appear in places you would not expect. Photography is at its softest. This is the busiest season — book early.

Summer (June–August) is intense. August averages 34 °C and heat waves push past 40 °C. Days are very long: 13 hours of sun. We adapt the tours — earlier starts, a long midday rest in the shade, late afternoon back into the desert. Nights cool quickly. Stargazing is at its longest. Fewer visitors, lower prices.

Autumn (September–November) is the second golden season. Light becomes softer, days warm, nights crisp. Many travellers prefer autumn over spring for its calmer feel.

Winter (December–February) is cold and clear. Days can be pleasant, around 14 °C average in January, but nights drop fast. Occasional rain — about fifteen days a year in total — sometimes snow. The desert is at its most photogenic, the sand washed clean. Bring layers and a real coat.
